Record-breaking month for London Luton Airport as it surpasses passenger landmark

London Luton Airport has posted its 25th consecutive month of passenger growth as over 1.1m people flew through the airport in April.

The figures, which were released today, mark a 17% increase on the same month last year and mean the airport has now supported 13m passengers in the last 12 months, a record for the South East transport hub.

It comes at a time of steady growth for London Luton, as it added three new routes to Larnaca, Turin and Paris Orly in April and announced the addition of a twice-weekly San Sebastien service this month.

Facing down the challenge from an expanded Heathrow or Gatwick, the airport is also embarking on an ambitious multi-million pound transformation plan, including £110m-worth of redevelopment work and a new £200m rail link connecting the airport to London St Pancras.

Nick Barton, Chief Executive Officer at the airport, commented: “As we await a decision on a new runway in the South East, LLA continues to go from strength to strength. The airport is being transformed by our £110million investment, while the announcement of the new MPT link will make accessing the airport easier than ever for passengers.

“At the same time, whether you’re a holidaymaker or business passenger, our strong relationships with our airline partners are allowing us to deliver more frequent flights to a wider variety of destinations than ever before.”
