Calderpeel appoints Tony Bennett for commercial push

Cheshire-based Calderpeel Architects has strengthened its commercial offering with the appointment of experienced architect Tony Bennett.

Tony, who joins after seven years with Pozzoni Architects, will work with Calderpeel in a non-executive director role to further develop its commercial team.

A specialist in the production and processing sector, and in the masterplanning of industrial and logistics estates, Tony’s experience includes work on projects for the likes of Unilver, PZ Cussons and ERF Trucks.

Ewen Miller, managing director of Altrincham-based Calderpeel, said: “Commercial and industrial is a growing sector for the practice. We’re working on more projects as confidence and investment continues to return to the market. Tony’s unrivalled experience will help us create and convert new opportunities and deliver outstanding work for clients.”

Tony, who ran his own Manchester-based practice Bennett Architects for 15 years, said: “Calderpeel is a practice with a dynamic management team and fresh ideas. We are working on some exciting new opportunities and we are already working on a new facility for North West Logistics, a North West based national and European wide distribution company. I am looking forward to helping the practice further develop its industrial and commercial expertise.”

Calderpeel’s previous commercial work includes new-build office schemes, office refurbishment, fit-out projects, and industrial buildings in Greater Manchester, Cheshire, North Wales and the wider UK.

In the current workload are a new 6,500 m2 (70,000 sqft) Headquarters for Derbyshire Police and Fire Service and a 3,800m2 (40,000 sqft) extension and refurbishment for Smart Storage at Broadheath, Altrincham.

The practice’s other specialisms include luxury residential, superhomes, leisure, care and ‘blue-light’ projects, such as police, fire and ambulance service buildings.

Aside from his vast architectural experience, Tony is also a regular on the after-dinner speaking circuit and is also well-known for his links to rugby union, having coached at Sedgley Park Rugby Club and now at Bowdon Rugby Club.
