First Baby is Born Using Revolutionary AneVivo Device
The internationally renowned fertility group, IVI fertility, have recently announced the birth of the first baby born in Spain using the newly developed AneVivo device.
For those who don’t know, this revolutionary device allows fertilisation and early embryo development to take place in the uterus, rather than in the laboratory. The process works by inserting both eggs and sperm into the intrauterine device so that the fertilisation and subsequent embryonic development to take place in the uterus. The AneVivo device is then later removed and the process begins to select the best embryos to be reinserted into the mother’s uterus.
The procedure allows embryos to be fertilised and develop from the first few hours in their natural environment, and under the same conditions of light, temperature and nutrients that they would have if conceived naturally.
From a psychological point of view, the procedure also allows parents to be more involved in the assisted reproduction process. This technology makes it possible for fluids, nutrients and other cellular and non-cellular components to pass freely through a porous membrane, facilitating the interaction between embryos and the maternal environment in a more physiological way.
As a result of the successful development and trialling of the device, Anecova is now starting the commercialisation of its AneVivo procedure with the IVI centre in Bilbao one of the first two leading IVF clinics to offer the technology fully to their patients.
IVI’s first birth using the AneVivo device signifies an exciting development within the fertility industry and will be welcome news for many women and couples across Europe who are keen to make the IVF process as natural as possible.
Dr. Marcos Ferrando, Medical Director at IVI Bilbao and one of the leading clinicians within IVI Group, comments, “The AneVivo device allows fertilisation and early embryo development to happen in the mother’s womb, rather than in the laboratory. The device will enable fertility and early embryo growth to happen in a more physiological environment, with embryos receiving nutrition and signals directly from the mother rather than from the culture fluids used in the laboratory.
We have been able to validate internally the AneVivo based Natural Fertilisation procedure and have obtained very positive performance indications. As a result of this, we are now offering this procedure to our patients“.
Martin Velasco, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Anecova, says, “We are proud that IVI Bilbao has achieved the first birth conceived through natural fertilization using this advanced technology. This Spanish clinic has become a centre of excellence for natural fertilization procedures in assisted reproduction.”
