IoT firm secures £600k Angel investment from Skyscanner entrepreneurs

London-based tech firm DevicePilot, which specialises in Internet of Things (IoT) devices, has announced the completion of its £600k Angel fundraising round.

The startup, founded by Pilgrim Beart and Rob Dobson, is aiming to capitalise on the explosive growth of connected IoT devices with its DevicePilot automated monitoring software.

Its software, which is currently in Alpha, aims to overcome monitoring and device management issues that come with the proliferation of IoT devices through automated updates, diagnostics and ‘device real estate’ monitoring.

Attracting investment from the likes of Skyscanner entrepreneurs Gareth Williams and Bonamy Grimes, along with Telefonica accelerator Wayra and an assortment of other serial investors, the Angel investment will support Beart and Dobson’s attempts to upscale the company as IoT begins to take off.

DevicePilot is currently based out of the Wayra accelerator at Shropshire House, and has already partnered with a number of technology companies, including British chip manufacturer ARM.

Chief Executive Officer Pilgrim Beart, said: “Since starting the company we’ve delivered IoT technology with some great partners such as ARM and played a leading role in the development of new IoT standards.

“But as we engaged with more and more connected-product companies across many different verticals it became clear to us that they all suffer from the same problem as they scale – managing their devices.”

Chairman Rob Dobson added: “We ended-up being significantly over-subscribed for this round, which is testament to the strength of the team, the product focus and the exciting growth of the IoT market.”

Beart and Dobson are experienced entrepreneurs who have both masterminded $100m tech exits in the past, with Beart successfully exiting cloud monitoring app AlertMe in 2015.
