On-demand laundry app ZipJet launches UK's first same day delivery service

Uber-style on-demand laundry app ZipJet has launched the UK’s first same day delivery service in London.

The London-based startup is launching the service, dubbed ZipJet Express, along with its new Plus and Lite services which aim to give users greater flexibility in their delivery options.

Using a ‘dynamic availability’ algorithm, combined with marketing, weather and customer analytics, the tech firm claims it is able to accurately predict user demand and driver availability, guaranteeing same-day service for those who need it.

In doing so, the firm has seemingly surmounted profitability and availability issues that the likes of Prim, the failed laundry app that went bust in 2014, have faced in the past.

Launched in Germany by entrepreneurs Florian Färber and Lorenzo Franzi in October 2014, the firm expanded into the London market last year and now employs 10 staff to run its capital-wide operation which has attracted over 20,000 users.

Florian Färber, ZipJet’s Co-Founder and Managing Director, said: “We have launched the bespoke options because we wanted to personalise the services we offer to customers. For example, some of our users need a quicker turnaround time, while others requested a more flexible collection and return window.

“We want to succeed in our market by responding to customer demand. Launching ZipJet Express, Plus and Lite reflects this.”

In an increasingly crowded space, ZipJet is facing stiff competition from the likes of Lavanda and Love2Laundry, as Uber-style on-demand apps continue proliferate the capital’s tech scene, leading some to suggest that we are currently in the midst of an on-demand tech bubble.
