Motoring services strategy launched by Department for Transport
The Department for Transport (DfT) has published its latest Motoring Services Strategy, which commits to further improve digital services for fleets.
The 27 page report looks at the work of the DVLA, DVSA and VCA, making further suggestions and proposals for their continued development.
The document takes into account responses from a consultation held at the end of last year, with those contributing including the ritish Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association.
The Strategy has received a broadly positive response from the industry thus far. Dave Rowlands, Technical Services Director at Wincanton plc, said: “We welcome the Department for Transport’s (DfT) new Motoring Services Strategy that aims to support and enhance driver learning and vehicle testing. We particularly support their ambition to give greater responsibility to transport and automotive industries in operating and testing vehicles.”
“As the largest British logistics firm, we see this as a ground breaking initiative and a major step forward in ensuring that all haulage operators have access to the DfT’s services, in order to test vehicles efficiently and flexibly, and that drivers receive the right training.”
“We actively took part in the Government’s consultation, sharing our thoughts on how to boost training and licensing as well as ensuring that vehicles continue to be safe, and meet environmental and roadworthiness standards. Something that here at Wincanton, we are big advocates for.”
“It is core to our business to be able to provide the best levels of service, operating in a safe and sustainable environment, whilst pushing the industry to embrace innovation. We will work alongside the DfT to ensure a seamless transition in applying this new strategy and play our part in supporting the UK automotive industry.”
