Transforming St John’s Walk from house to home

Following the successful launch of David Wilson Homes’ St John’s Walk development in the sought after area of Hoylandswaine, Barnsley, Show Business Interiors reveal the inspiration behind the sophisticated look and feel at the development and how you can recreate the look in your own home.

Jackie Summerfield, Managing Director of Show Business Interiors, and her team were tasked with the design of the Shelbourne and Emerson showhomes; spacious four and five bedroom detached homes respectively, designed with family living in mind, with a different palette and design in each property.

Jackie developed a contemporary scheme for the Emerson with small, classical elements to it, while the Shelbourne is designed with a “homes and gardens” feel, making the most of the natural light. Both homes exude luxury and demonstrate a fantastic use of space.

The stunning designs are clearly a draw, as many of the first release of homes are now sold and interest remains very high.

Jackie commented: “St John’s Walk features a selection of four and five bedroom homes in a picturesque area of South Yorkshire, offering beautiful views over the surrounding countryside, and as such the showhomes were designed to reflect the exclusivity and charm of their location.

“We knew it was vital that we delivered designs that would showcase two different homes in different ways, hence, the “contemporary” and the “homes and gardens” themes came to life. As a result, viewers can appreciate on-trend wallpapers on show in the Shelbourne, while the Emerson offers a neutral palette of ivory and ash, with accents of gold.”

Both properties offer plenty of room for the whole family, making the most of space with natural light, particularly in the open plan kitchen and breakfast areas. Incorporating luxury materials such as granite or quartz worktops provides an indulgent feel to the homes while lending them perfectly to everyday family life. Elsewhere in the properties, textured wallpapers and elegant murals give an air of modern luxury and opulence to the living areas, perfect for families looking to relax after a long day.

Jackie offers her top tips for creating similar contemporary looks in your own home.

Make use of texture

A cream colour scheme keeps things fresh, but can feel cold if you’re not careful. Make use of textured wallpapers on feature walls and soft feel good fabrics such as velvet and silk to keep warmth in the room. Feed in accent colours in gold and ivory to add a luxury feel to the interiors.

Light it up

Natural light is all well and good, but when the night sets in, ensure you have a variety of lighting on both the ceiling and the table to create warmth and ambience in the evenings.

Make use of space

In a large family home it is vital that each member of the family has a space to call their own. In St John’s Walk’s showhomes we created clear boundaries, with sophisticated rooms in contemporary styles. One is designed with a teenage son in mind, and a pretty yet artistic themed bedroom demonstrates the potential of the room for a child of any age. Allow family members to suggest their own ideas for the design of their own space, and take inspiration from this as a starting point.

St John’s Walk is located in the beautiful South Yorkshire countryside, boasting a selection of luxurious four and five bedroom homes, offering picturesque country views, along with nearby amenities in the form of two local pubs, along with strong transport links.
