Chelsea FC on brink of £60m kit mega deal with global sports brand

Premier League football club Chelsea FC are reportedly on the brink of signing a new £60m kit deal with global sports brand Nike.

The new deal, if it comes off, will be the second biggest kit deal in the league behind Manchester United’s ten-year £75m deal with Chelsea’s former shirt manufacturer Adidas, but will dwarf the £30m partnership Arsenal currently have with the Oregon-based sports brand.

The agreement, which will come into force from the 2017/18 season, is a big coup for the London club as it is double the size of the previous £30m deal and will go some way to making up for the club missing out on European club competition this season.

It comes after the club broke off its agreement with the German sports brand six years early, following disagreements over Adidas’s promotion of rival clubs including Juventus and Bayern Munich according to Sportsmail.

Combined with the bumper TV deal that is to come into force next season, more money than ever is expected to flow into the Premier League in the coming years, with the big clubs now looking at major sponsorship deals as a way to consolidate their position over their league rivals.
