Funding boost for health projects

Two regional groups working to provide health and medical support have been chosen to receive a funding boost from a national housebuilder.

Healthy Hopes Cumbria and the Top ‘o th’ Lane Red Phone Box Defibrillator Appeal have each been selected to receive donations as part of Persimmon Homes Lancashire’s Community Champions. The national match-funding programme seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment for local people. Diane Finch, sales director for Persimmon Homes Lancashire, said: “As a company we are committed to supporting the small charities, clubs and organisations that operate near to our new homes developments. “This month we are proud to support two excellent health projects which are working to improve their communities, and for that they deserve our thanks and backing.” Healthy Hopes Cumbria is a Maryport-based charity working to promote the health and wellbeing of the local community. The group offers free holistic workshops and support services promoting improved levels of emotional wellbeing and resilience. The match funding donation from Persimmon Homes will help the group to start a new social inclusion group for the Maryport community. Top ‘o th’ Lane Red Phone Box Defibrillator Appeal is a group in Brindle, Lancashire, working to restore a decommissioned K6 telephone box as a heart defibrillator location, providing vital medical support to the village well as the many walkers, cyclists and horse riders who pass the road daily. The group have already received support from the Parish Council and the NW Ambulance Service, and Persimmons’ donation will help towards the cost of the defibrillator unit and installation work. Community groups, charities and good causes across the country have benefitted thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity The scheme invites local groups and charities to bid for cash from a £750,000 national fund, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally each month.
