Historic Bradford site hits the market at Eddisons property auction

A city centre car park in Bradford, fronted by the grade-II listed Victorian façade of the former Fountain Hall Quaker meeting house, is among over 70 lots included in Eddisons’ next Leeds auction.

The auction, which will take place on 26th May at Elland Road stadium, is set to generate more than £6.5m.

Located in Fountain Street, Bradford, the car park is also adjacent to the site where Branwell Bronte, brother to Charlotte, Emily and Anne, lived between 1838 and 1839, and earned a living as a portrait artist.

The site, which has a guide price of £150k-plus, includes the car park and the option to redevelop the derelict Fountain Hall building.

Other historic buildings due to go under the Eddisons hammer include Phoenix House on Elland Road in Morley, Leeds. The 6,000 sq ft former Victorian Methodist chapel has been refurbished as office and retail accommodation and is currently vacant. The guide price is set at £150k-plus.

Also up for auction is a five-storey, 23, 000 sq ft, Victorian woollen mill on Crown Street in Halifax town centre. The disused building has lapsed planning consent for redevelopment into ten residential units and has a guide price of £85k-plus.

Glenn Levison, associate director at Eddisons, said: “West Yorkshire is packed with interesting historic buildings, and we are always amazed at how many we see passing through our auction house.

“They tend to create a lot of interest among potential buyers and we have a particularly good haul coming up in our May auction, along with a huge variety of more modern properties, which are also worth a look for investors and developers.”

Eddisons is also auctioning Glydegate Square in Bradford, a multi-let 29,600 sq ft purpose-built modern leisure investment opposite Bradford’s Alhambra Theatre. With a guide price of £1m, the property generates an annual rental income of around £150k.

A four-bedroom house at Pellon near Halifax, which has a rural setting, substantial gardens, is being sold on behalf of Calderdale council and is also included in the auction. Shacks House has a guide price of £90k-£100k.
