Newcastle charity receives financial aid

A charity that assists people with learning disabilities has received a welcome fundraising boost through one regional builder.

Better Days has received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes North East; as part of the builder’s Community Champions scheme.

The user-led organisation raises money for adults with learning disabilities to address the barriers they have to face on a day to day basis and encourage them to get out and about.

Better Days coordinator, Glenn Howe, said: “We’re so thrilled to have received this donation. With this funding we can provide transportation for our members, so that everyone can join in with the activities.

“Without funding such as this we wouldn’t be able to offer our support, which is so vital for adults with learning disabilities.”

Debbie Zaben, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes North East, said the Community Champions scheme was a way of supporting people across every city, town and village where the company builds new homes.

She said: “We are delighted to support Better Days as we know that funding can be difficult to source, so it’s fantastic that we can offer financial assistance.

“We were very impressed with their application and the vital work they do to bring together people with learning disabilities.”

The Persimmon Community Champions scheme is a national programme where clubs, groups and good causes can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.

Debbie said: “We’ve made it really simple to apply for funding, and we’re now urging people to apply for next month’s allocation by completing a form at www.persimmonhomes.com.”
