Relocation marks next chapter for Leeds architectural practice

One of the UK’s leading architectural practices SDA has relocated to new offices in Leeds as the growing firm marks its 21st year in business.

Keen to create a more vibrant, engaging and collaborative working environment for the 28-strong team, SDA has moved to a 350sqm space at Manor Mills, on the fringe of the city centre.

What was an empty shell has now been transformed with a full fit out and furniture installation completed by Leeds-based Fraser Projects.

Following the 6-week contract, SDA has an open-plan workspace with high quality A-frame desking, bespoke urban storage, a magnetic wall and full data installation. Partitioning has been erected to create a boardroom, meeting rooms and breakout hubs, with new flooring and décor throughout. Fraser Projects has also refurbished the lavatories, created a new shower room, installed glazed partitioning, bespoke reception detail and a new suspended ceiling.

It’s perhaps no surprise given the quality of design that SDA is renowned for, that the interior now makes a statement.

Commenting on the works, SDA’s Director Martyn Fryer said: “We wanted the new office to be an expression of our skills. The design is innovative, not only in its fresh look and feel but also the materials we’ve specified. We haven’t just used expensive, high-end products – we’ve sourced good value materials that act as a showcase for what’s possible, within budget.”

SDA selected Leeds office furniture and fit out specialist Fraser Projects due to the multi-disciplined nature of the team and comprehensive understanding of what was required.

“The guys demonstrated a real respect for quality and contributed some of their own suggestions to complement the ideas of our own interior design team,” continued Martyn. “It was a real joint effort and we’re really pleased with the outcome.

“In our last offices at nearby Marshall Street, we were using a mezzanine which had a void that split our team in two. This wasn’t ideal as it restricted our communication. We now have a dynamic space that completely reflects our organisational culture. It’s definitely given us a boost.”

The relocation coincides with a company rebrand, launch of a new website and the establishment of a new design team dedicated to the education sector – a growing market for SDA.

Martyn concludes: “To be marking our 21st anniversary is a great achievement for SDA, but we’re a progressive organisation implementing fresh plans for the future. Our new ‘home’ marks the start of this next chapter.”

The practice – which also has offices in London and California – has a global client base in sectors ranging from commercial to automotive and residential to elder care. Notable customers include Audi, Harrogate International Centre and Hard Rock Café.
