Seddon to build 62 new Cheshire homes in contracts worth £6.7m

Construction company Seddon has been chosen to deliver two projects worth £6.7m for housing association Equity Housing Group.

Following its appointment, the Bolton-headquartered company will build 62 homes across the Winsford and Barnton areas of Cheshire.

In the Barnton project, worth £4.2m, Seddon will create a mix of 40 two- and three-bed homes on Meadow Drive, on land formerly occupied by a Royal British Legion centre.

Half of the homes will be sold by Seddon’s own ID4Living brand, while the rest will be owned and managed by Equity, 12 of which will be up for affordable rent and the remaining eight for shared ownership.

Equity CEO David Fisher said: “We are delighted to partner with Seddon again to deliver much needed affordable housing on land secured through our strong relationship with Cheshire West Council.”

Elsewhere, Seddon is due to deliver a second development worth £2.5m in Winsford. Located on Leaf Lane, on the site of a former school, the scheme will comprise 22 two- and three-bedroom homes, of which 16 will be available for affordable rent and six shared ownership.

Seddon’s regional director for the North West, Duncan Williams, commented: “Our latest partnership with a social landlord is another example of how we can work with the sector to find solutions for new build projects.

“We have an incredibly strong heritage in the sector, having delivered schemes for the past 100 years and won £40 million worth of contracts in the past 12 months alone.”

He added: “It is great to be working with Equity again having successfully completed 66 new homes for them on their Chapel-en-le-Frith development in Derbyshire at the end of 2015.”

The Barnton project is due for completion in July 2017, while the work in Winsford will wrap up in January.

The work with Equity follows news of Seddon’s appointment on a contract worth £2.4m for Adactus Housing Association.
