Bulgaria's capital is Wizz Air's newest destination from Doncaster Sheffield Airport
Wizz Air is launching new flights to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, from Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
The twice weekly flights will take off on December 23rd and will operate all year round.
Chris Harcombe, head of aviation development, for Doncaster Sheffield Airport said: “We are delighted to be announcing this new route continuing the growth for the airport with Wizz Air.
“Sofia is a gem of a capital city, steeped in history through its many Roman ruins dotted throughout the city and it is also a gateway to the country’s fantastic ski resorts.
“It is great to be boosting our winter ski, summer sun and city break offering with this new route.”
This new route means that Wizz Air now serve 12 destinations from Doncaster Sheffield Airport with its new Cluji, Romania route launching in July.
Wizz Air will also celebrate 10 years of operating from Doncaster Sheffield Airport later this year, the airlines largest UK base outside of London Luton.
Chris added: “The continued growth with Wizz Air over the past decade shows the strength of our relationship and the local demand to reach the destinations they serve.”
Sofia will bring Wizz Air’s annual passenger offering at Doncaster Sheffield Airport to over 600,000.
