Plans submitted for 529 homes in Kenton
Newcastle City Council has received a proposal for the development of 529 family homes at Kenton Bank Foot.
Newcastle-based planning and design consultancy Barton Willmore has submitted the planning application, on behalf of housebuilder Taylor Wimpey, which proposes a first phase of 90 family homes at the 20.9 hectare site off Ponteland Road and Brunton Road.
Shaun Cuggy, Senior Planner at Barton Willmore, said: “This is an ideal site for the delivery of new family housing following its removal from the Green Belt and subsequent allocation for housing within the adopted Core Strategy.
“The site is considered to be one of the most sustainable new housing sites in the city with great public transport links in the form of two nearby metro stations and existing bus routes whilst there are a range of shops, services and facilities within walking distance at Kingston Park.
“We are confident that the development will deliver a great environment for future residents whilst also contributing to the local economy and creating a number of job opportunities throughout the construction period.”
Barton Willmore also led the planning component of a masterplan document for the wider allocation of 800 homes on the Kenton Bank Foot site, on behalf of the landowners involved.
Phase one of the development includes a mixture of properties ranging from two bedroom starter homes to four bedroom detached homes.
Stuart Natkus, Planning Director at Barton Willmore, added: “These plans are the culmination of five year’s work and will deliver much needed housing on the doorstep of Newcastle city centre.”
