Further growth by Crafter’s Companion
Crafter’s Companion’s expansion with a move to Newton Aycliffe has paid off with an unprecedented level of interest from job applicants with all 27 new jobs now filled.
Founder Sara Davies says the new, 15,724 sq ft head office and retail store at Horndale Business Centre, Aycliffe Industrial Park, was part of an overall £500,000 investment. “We are delighted to have found the right people so quickly to help take this business forward,” says Sara.
The premises, acquired on behalf of Crafter’s Companion by Knight Frank, were on the market following the closure and subsequent administration of Holiways Ford main dealership and provided exactly the right mix of space the business was seeking to accommodate its head office and first direct venture into destination retailing.
Knight Frank partner Simon Haggie, says the showroom was ideal for conversion into offices providing light and airy space which can be expanded with further mezzanine levels in the future. The adjoining former parts store proved to be perfect for the retail/demonstration area and will incorporate a coffee shop for visiting customers.
“This is a major leap forward from the business’s original premises at nearby Coundon. The company has taken a 10 year lease on the new premises and hopes the move will provide the platform for further growth and development of the business,” says Mr. Haggie.
Sara adds: “We now have excellent office space and a dedicated showroom with themed shopping sections covering papercraft, arts, sewing, home décor and haberdashery. There are two dedicated demonstration areas and a central hub for workshops and group sessions.”
“We believe that the excellent access to the industrial park will help us create a destination outlet where people can come and enjoy a day out, take a class, learn more about crafts, visit the café and get involved with the demonstrations. This gives Crafter’s Companion both a physical presence and a chance for our customers to interact with our brand, staff and products, and experience what we’re all about.”
