Anesco named a leading player in energy storage

Energy efficiency solutions company, Anesco, has been named one of the UK’s top providers of energy storage by a respected industry league table.

Energy Storage 100, compiled by Solar Media, highlights the top 100 businesses who are most likely to make a significant impact. It recognises those who are shaping the UK market and promoting the long-term, sustainable growth of the sector.

As an early pioneer of battery storage, Anesco was the first company in the country to introduce residential and commercial scale battery storage solutions, installing its first unit – a 250kWh battery connected to an existing solar farm in Dorset - in September 2014.

The company now has units totaling 20MW in either operation, construction or delivery and is the largest commercial developer of such schemes in the UK. A further 50MW is due for installation by the end of this year, with 100MW planned for both 2017 and 2018.

Commenting on the listing, Delvin Lane Anesco CEO, said: “We’re delighted to feature in the energy storage league table. At Anesco we have a strong track record of being first to understand and introduce new technologies, and energy storage is no different. We installed our first utility scale and residential units back in 2014, and since then our offering has gone from strength to strength.”

He continued: “If we are to decarbonise the electricity network then the ability to store energy and reduce the strain placed on the grid, particularly at peak usage times, is going to be critical. Energy storage solutions support the use of renewables as they provide the flexibility that is needed to be able to match generation to supply and meet customer’s needs.”

Anesco’s first unit was connected to an existing solar farm based in Dorset. It was the first time that a solar park owner, energy supplier and energy efficiency solutions company had joined forces in this way. It went on to secure all three TRIAD payments and released power in the evening, when the UK grid required it. This enabled the solar farm to be registered as a non-intermittent generator, which was another first in the UK.

Delvin added: “The value now being placed on storage solutions is very encouraging, as if we are to reduce the country’s reliance on fossil fuels, while coping with growing power demands, then effective and sustainable power systems need to be in place. The ability to store energy and match generation with demand is a vital part of that.”

Anesco works with clients ranging from major corporations to small businesses and individuals, helping to drive carbon reduction and transform energy use. To date, the company has helped to raise over 275,000 people out of fuel poverty and the technologies it manages and has deployed are generating over 500MW of renewable energy – enough energy to power to over 130,000 homes.
