UKTI encourages North West businesses to try exporting

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is encouraging North West businesses to use its recently launched free online service, ExportSavvy, in order to learn how to grow a sustainable business through international trade.

ExportSavvy is a unique learning and information tool for businesses who want to grow their standing in international markets, teaching users ‘best practice’ methods for a range of issues of interest to companies who want to successfully export products or services overseas. The website is ideal for companies who are new to exporting as well as those with experience who wish to demonstrate to members of staff the possibilities exporting can bring.

Users of the website are able to find out more about existing exporters’ real-life approaches and work out their own planned progression. By completing a range of modules, users are challenged with a series of questions about their own business and guided towards conclusions about how they can begin or continue their export journey.

Module topics include:

• Exploring your export potential

• Choosing a new market

• Entering a contract

• Creating an international proposition

• Organising finance and resources

• Conducting market research

• Transporting goods

• Protecting Intellectual Property.

The website forms part of Exporting is GREAT, the Government initiative which aims to inspire and support 100,000 additional UK businesses to sell their goods and services overseas by 2020.

Launched in November 2015, Exporting is GREAT will run for five years and is designed to empower UK SMEs to take advantage of the global appetite for UK products, skills and expertise in markets around the world. In partnership with major UK businesses, the programme will support companies at every stage of their exporting journey – from identifying opportunities to winning contracts overseas.

Clive Drinkwater, North West regional director for UKTI, commented: “I’d like to encourage businesses in the region to take advantage of the ExportSavvy website. The service can help businesses to get started in international trade or increase export capabilities, while saving time and money. It also serves as a training tool for new members of staff or as a refresher course in exporting for those already with some experience. The more exporters we have in our region the better, and this website is a great way for companies to take their first steps of their exporting journey.”
