Saltaire energy firm is shortlisted for top green energy award

Saltaire-based community energy firm Switch2 has been shortlisted for the prestigious BusinessGreen Leaders Awards 2016, alongside fellow finalists such as the National Trust, the Body Shop, and Aldi.

The firm has gained recognition for its innovative new energy smart Incontro technology.

The new three-in-one, pay-as you-go smart billing and energy control and monitoring system has been shortlisted in the Energy Efficiency Project of the Year category.

Incontro helps developers and landlords to reduce debt risk and improve environmental performance of district heating schemes. The technology also makes it simpler for residents to pay for their energy and control and monitor their energy usage. This leads to energy efficiency savings and lower bills.

Kirsty Lambert, Director of Switch2 said: “It is an honour to be shortlisted for this prestigious award alongside some of the UK’s most inspiring and innovative green companies. We are extremely proud to be among fellow finalists such as the National Trust, the Body Shop, Aldi, Panasonic, O2, Willmott Dixon, Gentoo, Exeter City Council and Northern Rail.”

She continued: “When residents have an opportunity to measure and monitor how much energy they are using, their consumption can reduce dramatically. Incontro makes saving energy easy, informative and exciting, so we are expecting this to translate into lower bills and improved environmental performance.”

This news follows Switch2’s success in winning the European Smart Metering Technology of the Year Award for Incontro.

Switch2 remotely manages and monitors the Incontro system from its UK customer service centre, located next to Salts Mill. From here, it provides complete billing, prepayment and administration services to more than 50,000 homes across 400 community energy and district heating schemes.

The BusinessGreen Leaders Awards Ceremony will take place at a gala ceremony in London on 6 July.
