Bradford vehicle protection firm announces £450k investment and record sales

Specialised Covers, the Bradford-based vehicle protection firm, has invested nearly half a million pounds into the business as it looks to continue to grow in the bespoke cover market.

Established in 1981 by Douglas and Carole Long, the company has invested £450k over the past 18 months in employment, machinery, staff training and a complete brand overhaul.

Specialised Covers, which turnsover just above £3m, has also achieved 2.5% year-on-year growth.

Based on Dockfield Road, Shipley, the family run firm company designs, manufactures and supplies bespoke tailored vehicle covers designed to protect and preserve cars, caravans and motorcycles. The product range includes both indoor and outdoor protective covers, production equipment covers, and towing covers for caravans.

Specialised Covers, which employs 56 staff, supplies automotive brands such as Audi, Bentley, Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes, McLaren and Formula One Teams.

The company is also the preferred supplier for caravan manufacturers such as The Swift Group, Bailey of Bristol, Xplore Group and Lunar Caravans as well as selling direct to consumers through its website.

Gavin Hughes, managing director at Specialised Covers, said: “The market in which we are operating has grown exponentially over the past five years – people are investing in high end and classic cars so they want to protect and preserve them to keep them looking their best.

“The caravan market continues to grow and this is an area in which we are seeing the biggest demand – protecting caravans with storage and towing covers saves hours of cleaning and decreases depreciation.

“Our relationship with OEM’s, Distributors, Dealerships and Resellers has never been stronger and as a result we are continually looking to re-invest in the sustainability of our future business. Our next strategic move will be to invest in our infrastructure to create space for further growth – particularly in the employment of staff in the region.

“As a family business made up of car, motorcycle, and caravan enthusiasts we are thrilled that, after 35 years, we are still regarded as the authority in the industry and hope to continue to build on this success for the next 35 years.”
