Northern Powerhouse Minister among officials attending Leeds conference later this month

Later this month, Northern Powerhouse officials are set to embark on Leeds city centre to hold a conference on ‘Building the Northern Powerhouse.’

James Wharton MP, Minister for the Northern Powerhouse; Alex Aiken, Executive Director of Government Communications; Chris Hearld, Chairman of KPMG’s Northern Region and other senior leaders will attend the event at the offices of AQL Telecomms.

The half day event, on Friday June 17th, is to be focused on promoting greater collaborations between the Government, public and private sectors.

Executives from the private and third sectors from across the Northern Powerhouse region are being urged to attend, especially communications and policy professionals.

During the conference an update will be provided on core focus areas of: Infrastructure and connectivity; Science, skills and innovation; Quality of Life; Devolution and Governance.

Key areas of discussion will be how the Government, public and private sector organisations across the region have delivered on the Northern Powerhouse agenda to date and ensure the initiatives continued growth and success.

Northern Powerhouse officials will also address the business community and third sector partnering with the Government on delivery of the Northern Powerhouse to attract domestic and international investment into the region.

In addition, ideas will be brought forward on how to collaborate more efficiently between the Government, private and public sectors on the Northern Powerhouse across the whole region - cities, towns and rural areas. And finally, how the business and third sectors can become official partners for the Government’s communications and advocacy of the Northern Powerhouse.

A Government statement read: “The Northern Powerhouse is our ambition to bring together the great cities, towns and rural communities of the North of England and North Wales to become a powerhouse for our economy.

“We will achieve this with modern transport links, a revolutionary new style of governance and increased investment. Investing in and fuelling the Northern economy provides a great opportunity for the North to be at the forefront for the UK’s economic success for decades to come.”
