Hands up for hygiene with Nuffield Health Chester

The Infection Prevention team at Nuffield Health Chester, The Grosvenor Hospital, recently visited The Firs School Chester alongside its friendly mascot, The Healthy Hound, to help children understand the importance of hand hygiene within school and social environments.

During the visit children had the opportunity to design a poster highlighting when to wash hands and the importance of washing hands properly. The posters were showcased in Nuffield Health Chester’s Grosvenor Hospital.

Nuffield Health’s Healthy Hound was enlisted to help and spread the important message throughout the classroom, while ensuring everyone had fun.

Fiona Sernberg, Matron at Nuffield Health Chester, The Grosvenor Hospital, said: “We are passionate about spreading the word to the younger generation of the importance of hand hygiene and delighted to have had the opportunity to demonstrate this to a very fascinated group at the Firs School.

“The children created a fantastic poster based on what we taught them and we hope we’ve embedded good habits now and for adult life.”

Lucy Davies, Head Mistress at The Firs School Chester said: “We look forward to further collaboration with Nuffield Health Chester, working alongside their energetic and dedicated team to deliver more interactive learning sessions planned for later this year.”

The visit came as a recent survey highlighted that a shocking 62% of men and 40% of women don’t wash their hands after visiting the bathroom. It is hoped that Nuffield Health Chester’s wider work with schools will also enable children to reinforce the importance of good hand hygiene.
