Child contact centres receive financial boost
A charity designed to support children whose parents have been involved in a marriage or relationship break-up has received a donation from a leading UK housebuilder. Stevenage & North Herts Child Contact Centres has been awarded £900 thanks to Persimmon Homes North London’s Community Champions scheme, which seeks to support local groups and charities working to improve the quality of life for the community. The charity has one centre in Stevenage and one in Letchworth and aims to create an environment where children can enjoy meaningful contact with their separated parents and to encourage the adults involved to plan for their children’s future. Anne Priest, of the Stevenage & North Herts Child Contact Centres, said: “The donation from Persimmon is vital to the work we do as it will pay for the support and training of the volunteers which we rely heavily on. “We know how difficult the period is for children after a break-up of their parents and we aim to not only ensure that both parents remain fully involved in their child’s future but also that the youngster has a fun and safe environment in which to enjoy at the centre.” The Community Champions initative invites local groups and charities to bid for cash from a £750,000 national fund, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made in the region each month. Greg Kaye, sales director for Persimmon Homes North London, said: “We are delighted to be supporting this centre in Stevenage as they do some fantastic work with children who are going through a difficult period in their lives.” “Persimmon Homes North London has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and it’s always a tricky task to pick our winners each month. “If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.” Community groups, charities and good causes across the region have benefitted thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes.
