FTEC Appoints Founding CEO

The Foundation for Training and Education in Care (FTEC) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dean James CBE as its founding Chief Executive Officer.

FTEC is at an exciting juncture in its 70 year history; starting life as the National Nursery Examination Board in 1945 and emerging as a new charitable organisation from the sale of the awarding organisation, the Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education (CACHE).

Dean will officially join FTEC on 1st July and lead the charity as it embarks on an ambitious new strategy with a vision to become the leading independent voice for applying evidence to improve standards of education and training in the care, health and education sectors.

In addition to providing evidence-based advocacy, FTEC will also invest in commercially viable organisations, which help improve standards of education and training, and support better quality of services in the care, health and education sectors. This will be supported by a ‘collaborative hub’ to stimulate innovation and growth and to generate insight and data for its evidence-based research.

Dean joins FTEC from the Shaw Trust, a national charity, where he was Chief Strategy Officer, and developed its organisational strategy for growth and diversification and is on the Board of Directors of the Association of Employment and Learning Providers. He was previously CEO of Ingeus UK limited, an Ingeus and Deloitte LLP joint company, and a divisional COO at the Department for Work and Pensions.

Andrew Whelan, Chairman of FTEC, said: “I am delighted that Dean is joining us at this important milestone in the evolution of FTEC. We have a clear path to advance our strategic vision and Dean’s extensive experience in Government, the Third and Private sectors will ensure that the organisation prospers and achieves its ambitious goals.”

Dean James, CEO designate of FTEC, said: “The UK’s ageing demographic and increasing demand on both health and social care provision is well publicised. I am looking forward to embarking on a unique and exciting opportunity to join a charity which will lead the way in raising standards, promoting holistic and personalised services and investing in social enterprise and innovation.”
