Leeds Marriott Hotel’s bar manager wins prestigious award

Leeds Marriott Hotel is celebrating an outstanding achievement after its Restaurant and Bar General Manager was named the Marriott International Global Bar Associate of the Year, beating entrants from over 4500 hotels across the world.

Glen Whitaker, who is responsible for the four-star property’s 1871 Bar and Midtown Grill Restaurant, was recognised as the best bar associate in the Marriott chain due to his excellent P&L with year on year growth for the last four years. He was also awarded for his dedication and attitude towards delivering the best possible guest experience.

With a strong background in hospitality since university, Glen climbed the ranks to a General Manager role and was approached by The Leeds Marriott Hotel to open and develop their 1871 Bar & Lounge and later the Midtown Grill Restaurant. He is also a member of the Marriott International European Beverage Advisory Board.

As part of his prize, Glen will be flown to Marriott Corporate HQ in Washington DC to attend a glittering award ceremony and meet some of the most prestigious names in the hospitality industry, including Mr. Marriott himself.

Talking about the award, Glen said: “I’m very proud to receive such a prestigious accolade; it certainly took several days for it to sink in!

“We all work very hard as a team at The Leeds Marriott Hotel to ensure that our food and beverage offering is of the highest quality and I’m so pleased to be able to go to Washington to represent the team at the awards ceremony.”

Multi Property General Manager Tom Orange, said: “Glen’s achievement is testament to his hard work and dedication and I can think of no one more deserving. He joined us when we were opening the 1871 Bar & Lounge and he has contributed massively to its success since then. We’re very proud to have him on the team.”
