79 year old North East entrepreneur makes static electricity breakthrough
North East entrepreneur Tony Edwards has crafted a product that permanently banishes static electricity, something he says the the electronic and printing industries are crying out for.
The 79 year old founder of Northumberland-based Edson Electronics, which specialises in the manufacture of cleaning products for print and electronic industries, has invested over a decade’s worth of research and development time into creating the spray known as ‘StatClear’.
Tony explained: “The complex and important issues caused by static in the electronic and printing industries have long been recognised and it’s been a journey to find a cost-effective solution that removes static safely.”
StatClear is a water-based and doesn’t contain any solvents or dangerous chemicals making it safe to use and fully biodegradable. Tony believes his secret formula, StatClear, is nothing like any other product available on the market.
He added: “StatClear can be sprayed easily onto any surface, and is perfect for coating static-generating bins, trays, shelving, benches, screens, glass, walls and packaging for static-sensitive materials.”
The launch of StatClear is expected to increase the company’s turnover by 15 per cent and the management team are also planning to employ a member of staff to assist with its production and distribution.
The family-run firm, whose product line includes the anti-static floor paint, Electroguard®, supplies a wide range of household names across the world including Dell, Sony, Dyson, Google and Lidl.
Tony’s daughter, Susan Woods, alongside her husband Neil manage the day-to-day running of the business.
Neil, managing director, added: “Statclear will give us an opening into new markets, including the packaging industry, across the world.
“We’ve already closed our first deal with a company based in New Zealand and are looking forward to becoming known as anti-static leaders across the world!”
