Dr Tariq Drabu in Manchester said “The European Federation of Periodontology has called for action to improve oral health on a global scale this year. The federation is made up of twenty nine national scientific societies from Europe, North America and the Middle East. Their main focus is the level of gum disease throughout the world in 2016.”
Dr Tariq Drabu went on to say “The main concern on a global scale is gum disease. Periodontal disease can result in some serious health issues and oral health issues, even resulting in tooth loss if it is ignored. Periodontal disease is a severe form of gum disease and is a bacterial infection. Basically it causes a pocket to form between the tooth and the gum, which provides a warm hiding place for dangerous bacteria that grow there while eating the supporting structures of the tooth.”
Dr Tariq Drabu closed in saying “Periodontal disease is also known to be at a higher risk in patients who suffer from type 2 diabetes and heart conditions. It can also lead to serious inflammatory problems in the long run and therefore it is essential dentists and patients pay close attention to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of this gum disease moving forward. Treatment includes antibiotics, gum treatments and more to ensure the disease is eliminated effectively follow by the patient following a strict oral health routine at home.”
