Duchy Homes recognised in NHBC Health & Safety Awards

Two of Duchy Homes’ most senior site managers have had their hard work recognised as one of the UK’s safest builders in the first round of judging of NHBC’s (National House Building Council) 2016 Health and Safety Awards.

Nick Booth and David Mills have been named as Commended Award winners in the Best Site Small Builder category, and will now progress to the later stages of the competition; proceeding to compete for the Highly Commended, National Runner-up and National Winner titles which will be announced at the Award’s Gala event on 8th July in Birmingham.

David has been acknowledged for a second year for his work on Duchy Homes ‘The Orchard’ development in Braithwell, Rotherham, whilst Nick has been recognised for his work managing the firms’ most recent development ‘Thorpe Park Gardens’ in Colton, Leeds.

Now in their 7th year, the NHBC Health and Safety Awards are the UK’s only health and safety awards scheme exclusively for home builders. Recognising on-site health and safety best practice by house-building site managers across the nation, the NHBC Awards reward builders for their vigilance in ensuring the safety of both their workers and the public. The awards are also helping to drive up safety standards in the industry by showcasing and sharing best practice.

Jim Cropper, Group Managing Director at Duchy Homes said: “Both Nick and David work tirelessly to ensure that high standards of Health and Safety are met throughout our developments and I am pleased that they have been recognised by the NHBC for their efforts.

“To have been named as Commended Award winners now for all of our sites is a real achievement and highlights just how important Health and Safety is within our company.”

Tom Kitchen, NHBC Health and Safety Operations Manager said: “Congratulations to Nick Booth and David Mills on achieving this NHBC Health and Safety Commended Award. It’s been a fantastic year with a record number of entries; we had an outstanding shortlist of finalists this year, strengthening the importance given to health and safety on house-building sites across the UK. To win an award at this level clearly shows commitment to preserving an excellent health and safety record and ups the ante for other site managers. We wish Nick and David the very best of luck in the next stage of the competition.”
