Everton appoint “number one target” as new manager

Everton FC have confirmed the appointment of Ronald Koeman as their new manager.

Koeman, the former boss of Southampton, has signed a three-year contract with the Blues

Commenting on the appointment, Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright said Koeman was the club’s “number one target” from the moment they began looking for a new manager.

In a statement on the EFC website, Mr Kenwright said: “Ronald has such a strong track record in the game, instantly commanding respect for what he achieved as a player and for his qualities and accomplishments as a manager.

“The hopes and aspirations that we all have as Evertonians are with him, as is our total support at Board, shareholder and fan level.”

Discussing his new managerial post, Koeman said he believes in the club, the team and their supporters, as well as Everton’s ability “to achieve things” moving forward.

He continued: “Everton is a club with a great history and real ambition and it is a proud feeling for me to be part of what we want to go and do, together with the Chairman and Farhad Moshiri.

“I am looking forward to meeting everyone at the Club and to preparing for a big season in the Premier League.”

Mr Koeman’s contract makes him Blues manager until June 2019.
