The new office space will house Leyland's Product Design Group staff

Lancashire manufacturer Leyland Trucks expands South Ribble HQ

A 15-month project to revamp the headquarters of North West manufacturer Leyland Trucks is now complete.

The project, delivered by Preston building firm Conlon Construction, included the creation of a new floor of office space above the site’s existing two storeys to house Leyland’s Product Design Group staff.

In addition to the new third level, the scheme has freed up 11,000 sq ft of factory floor space and provided a refurbished staff canteen and washrooms, an upgraded medical centre and office space, and new meeting rooms.

The project was designed by architects Cassidy + Ashton, which has offices in Preston and Chester.

Conlon Construction chairman Michael Conlon said: “This was a very complex project which required meticulous planning in order to minimise any impact on operations.

“By working closely with Leyland Trucks’ management team and Cassidy + Ashton we developed a programme of works that delivered the new facilities in a timely manner while causing minimal disruption.”

He added: “Leyland Trucks is one of Lancashire’s greatest success stories and as a company which also has a rich history within the county, we are proud to have delivered this project.”

Leyland Trucks, a wholly owned subsidiary of global truck manufacturer PACCAR Inc, has been operating in Leyland, South Ribble, since 1896.

Cassidy + Ashton chairman Alistair Baines commented: “This project was designed to upgrade existing facilities and maximise available space to enable the business to make further and continuous improvements to its manufacturing processes.

“Materials used for the additional floor were selected to be in keeping with the existing building to ensure a seamless connection with the two-storey structure.”

Alistair continued: “This latest investment will ensure that Leyland Trucks continues to be a world renowned leader in vehicle manufacturing.”
