YORKSHIRE SMEs ARE NOT PREPARED FOR CYBER ATTACK

- From USBs disguised in your favourite football team’s colours, to viruses that lock you out of your own computer, the cyber threat is evolving - Free Cyber Security Seminar coming to Leeds on July 13th

According to the Government’s Cyber Security Breaches Survey (2016), a cyber-attack can cost £36,500 in damage to your company’s bottom line and many Yorkshire SMEs are wholly unprepared. Talk Straight, Yorkshire’s leading telecoms provider, is holding a cyber security seminar in Leeds, in a bid to better safeguard small to medium businesses across Yorkshire.

A quarter of all businesses have experienced one or more cyber security breaches in the last 12 months and as threats continue to develop and major companies invest in multimillion-pound defence systems, the primary target for today’s hackers and cyber criminals are SMEs.

The days of spam emails being the major cyber security risk to SMEs are gone as threats to smaller businesses continue to evolve and get more sophisticated. Many SME owners do not have the internal resources, required knowledge or, most importantly, the time to put necessary measures in place.

To help SMEs better protect themselves against the potential threats that exist, Talk Straight is holding a free cyber security seminar in Leeds on July 13th at Riverside West. Designed to offer assistance to any business with between 1-100 employees, the event will offer jargon-free advice on how the cyber-criminal operates, help you to understand the top risks your company faces and how to minimise the impact of a potential attack.

David Tindall, managing director & founder of Talk Straight, said: “We hope many Yorkshire SMEs will take this opportunity to get free advice and information. Whether you’re a dentist with patient data, a retailer with financial information, or an estate agent with a client database, the consequences of a cyber attack can be damaging to your finances, reputation and resources. In this current business climate, SMEs across Yorkshire can’t be complacent.

“We’ve already helped hundreds of businesses across the region The solutions to many of the problems that SMEs face are flexible and scalable, meaning that no matter the nature or size of your business, the appropriate defence tools are available to you.”
