Morpeth site manager wins award in housebuilding competition

A site manager working for North East housebuilder Barratt Developments has scooped a prestigious award in a national competition to find the best-run building sites in Britain.

Jim Bage, based at Barratt North East’s South Fields development in Morpeth, gained official recognition for the excellence with which he runs his development by receiving a Pride in the Job Quality Award. The awards are dedicated to recognising site managers who achieve the highest standard in housebuilding.

Jim has worked for Barratt Developments for 12 years, having previously worked as an electricians mate on residential and commercial projects in London and the South East.

Jim was joined by other Barratt Development site managers from across the UK who have scooped more than 79 awards for quality workmanship. Barratt Developments has won more Pride in the Job awards than any other housebuilder.

The Pride in the Job Quality Awards are the most coveted in the housebuilding industry and have been instrumental in driving up standards for 35 years. They are awarded after the construction standard setting body the NHBC carries out a series of spot check site inspections to select the best-organised and best-quality housing developments.

Thousands of site managers throughout the UK were judged on every aspect of their job, including technical skill, quality workmanship, customer service and site safety. The site managers will now go forward to the final round of the competition, which will select the best site manager in Britain.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes North East Managing Director Mike Roberts said he was delighted that local site mangers have again been judged as among the best in the housebuilding industry. “This recognition of the jobs which our winning site managers are doing shows that we are building some of the best quality homes in the country.

“The site manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring our teams deliver high-quality new homes and we are delighted that our investment in training and developing the very best staff has been recognised in this way. This is an outstanding result which can only give further confidence to our customers.”

Brandon Lewis, Housing and Planning Minister, commented:

“As government and industry work together to build the homes the country desperately needs, it’s important that housebuilders don’t lose focus on quality. The Pride in the Job Awards are a valuable way of recognising great work on site in construction and Barratt Homes can be proud of their success.”

This award comes on the back of Barratt Developments being awarded five stars by the Home Builders Federation (HBF) for customer satisfaction. Barratt is the only major national housebuilder to be ranked as five star by the HBF for the last seven years.
