Blyth rugby club wins big with cash donation

Young rugby players in Blyth are celebrating thanks to the financial support from one regional builder.

Blyth Youth Rugby Club has become the latest group to be given a £1,000 cash injection by Persimmon Homes North East as part of its year-long initiative to support local communities. The club trains 120 children, aged 4-18, two days a week at Plessey Road.

However, due to the lack of senior members, they can only field two sides making the club reliant upon their youth members to develop their rugby player skills to progress and join the senior team. Under 17’s Coach,

Kenneth Robinson, said, “We’re so thankful to Persimmon Homes for this donation. It’s incredible for us to finally have the financial ability to improve our facilities and provide a new kit, especially for our substitutes to avoid having to swap shirts due to the limited amount of kit.

“This will help our youth team strive and progress to our senior team and gives the club a strong and prosperous future.”

Debbie Zaben, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes North East, said: “It gives us great pleasure to present £1,000 to Blyth Rugby Club.

“Rugby has an important role to play in fostering community spirit locally and we look forward to continuing our association with the club and we wish them every success for the future.”

The Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.
