Great Park Netball Club receives funding help

A netball group in Gosforth has been gifted £1,000 from a leading regional builder.

Great Park Netball Club applied through Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme to fund new kit, equipment and training costs.

Sarah-Jane Walker, captain and committee member for the club, said: “We’re over the moon with the donation from Persimmon Homes and can’t thank them enough for their generosity.

“The funds will be of great help as the club goes from strength to strength as we continue to encourage people to come and try netball either for the first time or since they last played at school, for fun, friendship and a great way to stay fit. We have already won the first local winter social league and hope for many more league successes in the future.”

Great Park Netball Club was formed in 2015 when several residents living on the Great Park development in Gosforth starting playing netball at the new Community Centre. Supported by local England Netball staff through the Back to Netball programme, the club has grown into four senior teams and one junior team – most are already playing in social leagues and the county netball league.

More recently, the club has been shortlisted as Netball Goalden Globe nominee for the best ‘Back to Netball Club’ organised by England Netball North East.

Debbie Zaben, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes North East, said: “We are only too pleased to make this donation to Great Park Netball Club. They should be congratulated for what they have achieved over such a short period of time.

“As a major developer at Great Park we are committed to giving back to the local community where we build homes. We are now looking for other charities and sporting groups to get in touch and would encourage them to apply for funding.”

Great Park Netball Club have an open play session every Monday, 8-9pm at Great Park Community Centre.
