Hebburn school boy shows England support in competition

11 year old Matthew Strophair from Bill Quay Primary School has won a competition for a mascot he designed for the Euros to be printed and displayed at a local housing development. Pupils from the school have shown their support for the England football team by designing mascots to wish the team good luck ahead of this year’s Euros. Working with Barratt Homes North East, Matthew’s winning design has been printed and displayed on flags at the nearby The Maples development on Monkton Lane, Hebburn.

Following a number of submissions from the school, the winning design was chosen, with Matthew visiting The Maples on Monkton Lane to see his design take pride of place at the development. Matthew was also given a £20 Toys ’R Us voucher for winning the competition.

Steve Ball, Sales Manager at The Maples, commented:

“We opened up this competition in May and have had so many entries, it’s been great fun for everyone involved. We always try and engage with local schools as much as we can and it was a pleasure to see all of the designs the pupils came up with. It was a tough choice, but we had to choose a winner and we’re all proud to be supporting the England team this summer.”

The Maples is a prestigious development of two, three and four bedroom, detached and semi detached homes in Hebburn, Tyne and Wear
