Tariq Drabu Discusses Pain Caused By Dental Implants

Tariq Drabu is a Manchester born and educated dentist. He is also one of the youngest dentists to ever graduate in the United Kingdom at twenty one years of age. After graduation he worked in some of the busiest dental hospitals in the UK and Saudi Arabia before receiving his Fellowship in Dentistry at the College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Today he is the owner of the successful Langley Dental Practice and is also the Clinical Lead Dentist for the Oral Surgery Clinical Assessment and Treatment Services at NHS Heywood Middleton and Rochdale. He also finds time in his exceptionally busy schedule to tutor and mentor postgraduate dentists in oral surgery at the UCLAN Dental Clinic in Preston.

Tariq Drabu was speaking about an article recently published on a top dental news website. The full article, which was published on 20 June 2016, can be read here.

Tariq Drabu said “The Dental Institute at Kings College London has been studying the potential rare side effect of dental implants. Chronic pain is something that some patients have experienced and is considered a very rare complication. The college has highlighted this complication to identify the cause and what patients need to know before deciding to go ahead with this treatment.”

Tariq Drabu in Manchester went on to say “Dental implants are growing in popularity for people who have one or more teeth missing. They feel more natural than dentures and are a relatively basic procedure which usually comes away without any complications at all. The procedure involves a titanium screw being placed in the jawbone and topped with a prosthetic tooth. Over time the jawbone will fuse with the screw holding the implant in place. Most of these end upwith no problems.”

Tariq Drabu closed in saying “In very rare cases pain can occur. In some patients this pain is chronic and the team at Kings College London had to try and identify the cause, which could be from damaged nerves or swelling in the area. Chronic pain is pain that does not slow down with the help of over the counter pain killers. Nine in ten patients claiming to suffer chronic pain after the procedure advised the pain was immediate after the surgery.”
