BMI Healthcare to invest £8m in flagship Cheadle hospital
Private healthcare provider BMI is set to invest £8m in a series of improvements at its flagship Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle, Greater Manchester.
Over the next six months, services at the Alex will be enhanced by the purchase of an additional MRI scanner, refurbishments to the out-patient and reception areas and new equipment for the site’s seven operating theatres.
Additionally, the seven-figure investment will be used to create a theatre featuring modern imaging equipment, allowing it to be used as either diagnostics space or a traditional operating room.
BMI Healthcare will also expand the hospital’s car park, transforming an unused patch of land into a further 130 vehicle spaces.
The latest improvement programme will take BMI’s overall capital investment at the Alex to £18m in the last five years.
Simon Shepherd, the hospital’s executive director, said: “This is the latest phase of a long-running programme of investment which will ensure The Alex maintains its position as the best-equipped private hospital in the region, delivering exceptional care to our patients with the very latest technology and even greater flexibility.
“This investment programme demonstrates the board’s great faith in the hospital and the exceptional team we are fortunate to have in place at The Alex.”
The Alexandra, BMI Healthcare’s flagship site, is the biggest private hospital outside London. Today it employs 1,200 and treats over 20k patients each year.
