Brits spend over £4.3bn on summer holiday wardrobes

Research reveals that UK holidaymakers will invest £4.3bn in holiday clothes this year to look fashionable in the sun. The study commissioned by CollectPlus found that nearly three quarters (72%) of holidaymakers plan to buy new clothes for their summer holidays, with one in ten (9%) even going so far as to buy a whole new wardrobe.

The average person will spend £185 on their holiday wardrobe and interestingly men are likely to spend more (£205 vs £166 for women). Over half (58%) shop for their outfits online with more than a third (35%) admitting that’s where they expect to get better deals and 22% saying they can easily get inspiration online for a whole outfit.

Catherine Woolfe, ‎Marketing Director at CollectPlus, says: “With today’s busy lives it’s no wonder that so many people are shopping online for their perfect summer wardrobe. With more and more people struggling to find the time to get to the shops many online retailers are designing tools to help make holiday shopping easier; the Very Holiday Shop for example, allows shoppers to find all the items they need for their holiday wardrobe in one place. By offering CollectPlus as a delivery option, retailers are also allowing shoppers to collect purchases at a time and place that suits them - perfect for the 13% who said that picking up items from their local convenience store makes shopping for their summer holiday much easier.”

Whilst nearly half (45%) of British holidaymakers, used to the changeable local weather, admit to buying wet weather clothing even for beach holidays.

The most inspiring celebrity holiday wardrobes were also revealed with Michelle Keegan topping the list for women, beating hubby Mark Wright who came in at number four for men, making them by far the most stylish couple in the list. David Beckham, who once famously wore a sarong as non-beachwear, is the man most men want to emulate on the beach, followed by Daniel Craig and his infamous blue speedos.
