Nigel Lee will lead Amur.

Ab Agri launches new anaerobic digestion business in North Yorkshire

A newly formed business entering the UK anaerobic digestion market will be launched in North Yorkshire.

The new company, Amur, is set to work with food and drink suppliers to manage the co-products created in the manufacturing process, such as surplus food and beverage output, and add further value to them by using them as feedstocks for anaerobic digestion facilities in the UK.

As part of the AB Agri and Associated British Food Group, Amur is made up of a team of experts with agricultural heritage and background in working with co-products.

Amur is building its own anaerobic digestion facility in South Milford, North Yorkshire which will not only act as a testing ground for new products but also a centre for potential customers to visit for a demonstration of its services.

The business team at Amur will also look to work with food and drink manufacturers, hotels and restaurants chains, utilising their co-products and supplying them as feedstocks for anaerobic digestion facilities in the UK.

Nigel Lee, who will lead Amur, said: “Our primary goal is to work with suppliers from the food and drink industry, taking their co-products and utilising them as feedstocks for AD facilities in the UK.

“We aim to assist anaerobic digestion operators by introducing consistent, quality feedstocks that ensure security of supply, improve performance, capacity and optimise gas yields.”

Amur will also offer advice and guidance to anaerobic digestion operators.

The business team will offer practical support on feedstock selection and plant optimisation as well as collaborating with NNFCC, the consultancy focused on understanding biorenewable markets and associated technologies.

Working together, Amur and the NNFCC will offer agricultural anaerobic digestion operators advice on greenhouse gas compliance, greenhouse gas monitoring and product use.

Nigel Lee continued: “Our partners in the food and drink industry, as well as other suppliers, can be assured that within AB Agri and Associated British Foods, Amur has the size, the support and the expertise to ensure we’re finding the best route to market for their co-products to help them create profitable revenue streams over the long-term.”

Nigel Lee will be supported by a team including Technical Development Manager Christine Parry and Category Manager Dean Barclay.
