Work commences on £2.1m South Elmsall new homes development

Building work to create 21 new homes in South Elmsall is now underway as developer Wates Living Space Homes breaks ground on Westfield Lane.

Together Housing Group’s £2.1m development will see Wates Living Space Homes offer employment opportunities to add to the 13 apprentices appointed so far, as well as further contributing to the £4.7m spent to date with local suppliers in South Elmsall.

The project forms the second phase of Gordon Place, adding to the 45 new homes so far delivered by Wates Living Space Homes on behalf of Together Housing Group.

Work on phase one of the development began in March 2014 and has also seen Wates Living Space Homes build Frickley Mews, a 67-apartment extra care scheme designed for over-50s with an assessed need for care and support.

To mark the start of the building work on the development’s second phase, the Wates Living Space Homes team donated time and resources to carry out landscaping work in the new residents’ courtyard at Frickley Mews.

Forming part of the business’ nationwide Community Week, the volunteer programme saw the project team join forces with its supply chain partners and residents to create new planters and flowerbeds.

Joanne Jamieson, managing director of Wates Living Space Homes, commented: “So much has been achieved in partnership with Together Housing Group in the two years since Wates began work at Gordon Place, not least of which is the exceptional standard of the homes, which are making a real difference to residents’ quality of life.

“As investors in people, Wates is a business that always goes above and beyond the physical bricks and mortar of a project. Our work at Gordon Place has and will continue to be a valuable means through which we bring an employment and training boost to South Elmsall, ensuring that we leave a lasting skills legacy for the local community long after build completion.”

Caroline Grosvenor, group head of sustainable neighbourhoods at Together Housing, added: “Our partnership with Wates has been built on shared values around the positive and lasting social impact the development of new homes has on local communities, people and the environment.

“Managed by Together Housing, Gordon Place is part of a wider development in South Elmsall, which includes Frickley Mews Extra Care scheme for people with an assessed need for care and support, enabling people to remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible.

“This development scheme is a successful illustration of Together Housing’s commitment to providing high quality homes and services to our tenants that meet a variety of housing needs.”
