City of Liverpool College to provide training for two national hotel brands

National boutique hotel brands Hotel Du Vin and Malmaison have chosen the City of Liverpool College to provide management training across their UK-wide operations.

The new courses will see scores of the hotels’ staff undergo leadership and management training during the next 12 months.

Designed by the City of Liverpool College, the programme was piloted in partnership with Merseyside hospitality organisation Liverpool Hoteliers’ Association and will now be delivered across 33 Malmaison and Hotel Du Vin venues.

The deal forms part of the college’s ongoing strategy to secure bespoke training opportunities within the hospitality sector.

Mike Mountfield, commercial director for the visitor economy at the City of Liverpool College, said the programme is the result of consultations that identified the industry’s desire to boost management skills.

He commented: “The hospitality and tourism industry is experiencing real growth and is a diverse and constantly evolving world. The hotel sector is intensely competitive and there is a real demand for the kind training which can be tailored to a particular brand’s aspirations.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have been appointed by such prestigious brands as Malmaison and Hotel Du Vin. It’s testament to the quality of our approach and the insight we can bring to their operations.”

Malmaison and Hotel Du Vin’s group director of people development, Lindsay Southward, said the training will complement the hotels’ existing staff development efforts and help them retain and acquire new talent.

She said: “Delivering high quality training not only helps us to run brilliant hotels and deliver fantastic customer service, it’s also a key tool for attracting and retaining the best people in a sector which can sometimes be tough in such a competitive growth market.

“The courses designed by the College will be delivered to team leaders and managers right across our group and we’re delighted to be working with them and creating a bespoke package for our hotel group, covering vital skills for the hospitality industry.”
