Property developer calls on graffiti artists for Western Corridor development
A London property developer has joined forces with graffiti art collective Global Street Art to transform the hoardings on one of its major developments.
Landid Property and Brockton Capital called upon eight artists from the graffiti collective, who have painted over 1,000 murals worldwide, to paint an enchanted forest scene across the hoardings of their joint-venture Porter Building development.
The Slough project, which began construction in February, sits in an exposed position in the Western Corridor town, meaning the new artwork is a more welcome introduction for people arriving via train or bus.
Commenting on the scheme, Chris Hiatt, Director of Landid Property, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed linking up with Global Street Art for this project at The Porter Building, and we’ve been so pleased with the positive reactions and engagement on social media and from commuters who take an extra second to see the murals.
“We hope The Porter Building inspires similar sentiments when it opens in 2017.”
The 115,000 sq ft, tp bennett-designed scheme is scheduled for completion in August 2017 and is to create 200-250 jobs in the area during its construction.
Featuring a central atrium filled with plants and foliage, the artwork reflects the ‘green’ principles that have fed into the building’s design.
With fears that London’s construction industry could stall, and large-scale projects may be a left in limbo following the EU referendum, the approach might be one adopted by more developers as eyesore hoardings for stagnating projects become more common as a result of the Brexit fallout.
