Brighouse metalworking firm sees record month as contract wins total £2m

Arkoni Metalwork has recorded its best ever month for new contracts since being launched 25 years ago.

The Brighouse-based firm, which specialises in fire-rated glazing systems and architectural metalwork for the construction industry, picked up a number of contracts in June amounting to just short of £2m.

Among the contracts was a £1.4m deal for a large commercial development in Reading, which saw Arkoni manufacture the largest known butt-jointed fire-rated glazing construction in Europe.

June’s order book eclipses Arkoni’s previous best month in July 2014 by almost £400k.

Mark Prentice, Arkoni founder and managing director, commented: “Despite the uncertainty and chaos caused by ‘Brexit’ and the recent downturn in construction it appears we are bucking the trend.

“We have picked up the contract for the second phase of works at Forbury Place in Reading where we will be repeating our contract for phase one that involved the installation of what is believed to be the largest butt-jointed, fire-rated glazed atrium in Europe over eight floors.

“In addition we have won a £200k contract for door sets and glazing at the Royal Academy of Arts in Central London and a £80k project at St Fagan’s Museum in Cardiff.

“We still have a lot more work in the pipeline including a potential £3.5m school project. It appears that 2016-17 could be our best year of trading yet.”
