Work begins on new Tottenham Hotspur stadium ahead of move

Work on Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium is now underway as part of the club’s iconic White Hart Lane ground is demolished to make way for their new home.

The Premier League club’s new 61,000-seater is located on the same road as their current ground, sections of which are having to be demolished to make way for the structure.

Images released by the Daily Mirror show the scale of the work currently underway, with one of the stadium’s stands already partially demolished as the football club prepare for the move in the 2018/19 season.

Officially known as the Northumberland Park Development Project, the new project will feature leisure facilities and other amenities, including a hotel, health centre, homes and a club museum, along with a retractable pitch allowing the club to host NFL games.

As of next season, the club will continue to play all their domestic home matches at the 36,000 capacity White Hart Lane, while all their Champions League matches will be played at Wembley due to UEFA regulations.

Commenting back in May on the agreement to host all their European matches at the English national team’s home ground, Chairman Daniel Levy said: “We are delighted that we have been able to reach this agreement.

“Given the current reduction in capacity at White Hart Lane for next season and the ticketing requirements for Champions League, playing at Wembley will mean that we can continue to accommodate all of our existing season ticket holders.

“Our season ticket waiting list is over 50,000 so this now also offers us a great opportunity to provide more of our supporters with a chance to see the team play live during our Champions League campaign.

“Importantly, as we know it was our fans’ preference, it means that we can continue to play our home matches in London during our season away.”
