Durham-based Clayton Glass completes purchase of fellow glass specialist Romag
Durham-based Clayton Glass has bought specialist glass manufacturer Romag for an undisclosed fee.
Romag will continue to operate as a separate entity to its new owner, whilst Clayton will continue to separately manufacture insulated glass units for the domestic sector and specialist glass for conservatories.
Based in North Stanley, with a further manufacturing site in South Shields and an investment in Northern Express Glass based in Fleetwood, Clayton has a combined turnover of £27m and employs 250 people.
The acquisition of Leadgate-based Romag, which boasts annual sales of around £15m and employs 150 people, will bring additional opportunities for future collaboration on specialist glass products and technologies.
Ryan Green, Managing Director of Clayton Glass, commented: “We are delighted to have completed the purchase of Romag and look forward to helping both businesses grow and flourish in the years ahead.
“Although there are many synergies between the two companies in terms of location, history and core glass manufacturing activities, they specialise in very different areas of the glass industry.
“As a result, with both businesses having market leading reputations in their respective sectors, we will continue to operate each company completely independently so that both can focus entirely on continuing to grow their specialist market share.
“However, the new arrangement also means that where there are opportunities to work more closely on specific future projects, then naturally we will do so.”
