Habitat Charity House helps Miller Homes raise funds for Habitat for Humanity

As part of Miller Homes’ commitment to raise £100,000 for international development charity Habitat for Humanity in 2016, the leading housebuilder has commenced build on a ‘Habitat Charity House’ in the North East.

Exclusive to the region and currently being built at Portland Wynd in Blyth, the cost of time in labour from the build of this new Miller home will be added to the company’s fundraising efforts for the charity.

Set for completion in October 2016, plot 79, a four-bedroom Esk housetype, will be constructed to the high standards typical of a Miller home, with its build overseen by the development’s award-winning site manager John Harrison.

As the first major housebuilder to pledge its support to Habitat for Humanity’s re-launched Great Britain’s new Hope Builders Campaign, the £100,000 donation will lay the foundations for the build of over 30 new ‘Habitat Homes’ in poverty stricken countries, helping to give those in need a safe place to call home.

Patrick Arkle, operations director at Miller Homes North East, said: “Miller Homes’ pledge to raise £100,000 for Habitat for Humanity throughout 2016 is very important to us as a business and I am delighted that the North East has been chosen as the region to build this special home. The buyers of plot 79 at Portland Wynd will get a great Miller home as well as helping to support Habitat for Humanity.

“I’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of our contractors who are supplying their time in labour, as well as providing some materials, free of charge, and would like to thank them for their support, which will hugely impact the region’s contribution to the company’s overall fundraising efforts for the charity.

“There is a lot of activity going on across the company to help raise funds and it is no different here in the North East. We’re hosting staff events such as a quiz night, a BBQ and a golf day, as well as working with local schools, hosting a charity ball and staff members running the Great North Run in September.

“It’s great to see the whole team coming together to support our fundraising efforts for this very worthy cause and if members of the community are able to donate to help us to raise as much money as possible, we would be so grateful.”

Also helping to contribute to the £100,000 pledge, two representatives from Miller Homes North East will be joining 14 colleagues from Miller Homes across the UK on Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village Trip to Malawi from 18 to 25 September 2016.

Miller Homes PA Emma Bartle, 34, from Tynemouth, and site manager at Park View in Gateshead David Kempster, 43, from Sunderland, will help to create new Habitat Homes for orphans and vulnerable children, with the trip being funded by Miller Homes and each of the volunteers pledging to raise a minimum of £1,000 as part of their contribution towards the £100,000 target.
