HTL Boxer wins Bronze at EUBC European Championships
Ben Rees, Workshop Apprentice at HTL, an industry leading provider of controlled bolting, flange working and portable machine solutions has won the Bronze medal at the coveted EUBC European Youth Championships.
Ben, along with the rest of England’s Youth Men’s team headed to Russia for the 2016 EUBC European Youth Championships earlier this month to compete against other international boxing teams.
Running from 6-15th June in the Black Sea coastal town of Anapa, the Championships saw Ben win the Bronze medal and his fellow England team member Harris Akbar return with a silver medal after a tough final against a solid Russian opponent in the final.
At only 17, an intensive training programme and a lot of strategic preparation Ben’s return with a bronze medal comes after holding his own in the 75kg semi-final. Although the Birtley ABC boxer didn’t get the semi-final win against Lithuania, his performances and efforts during the tournament were well deserving of a medal.
Ben comments: “I went to Russia confident and fighting fit. I feel I boxed well in the all three of my fights and I came home proud with a bronze medal. The World Championships are upcoming in November and I will strive to bring back yet another medal from that competition.
I would like to thank HTL for their ongoing support and sponsorship.“
This is not the end for HTL Workshop Apprentice Ben, the England Youth Men’s team will be travelling to St Petersburg, Russia in November to compete in another highly competitive event, the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships.
Following another tough training regime and trip to St Petersburg, it would add to a terrific achievement if Ben and his fellow England team return home with additions to their medals, all at HTL continue to support and wish Ben the best of luck.
