Deloitte to create over 50 new jobs in Newcastle recruitment drive
Deloitte, one of the UK’s ‘Big Four’ accountancy firms, has announced it will recruit 50 new staff at its Newcastle-based national centre for excellence.
The firm revealed that the number of roles at the centre will increase from 50 to 85 by the end of this year, with a further 20 new jobs being created in 2017.
The Deloitte Centre for Excellence delivers key elements of the firm’s accountancy and audit processes for clients across the UK, from basic financial reporting through to detailed risk reviews.
Twenty of the new roles are available to individuals with little or no accountancy or audit experience. Training will be provided and financial support for accountancy qualifications is available.
Nicky Cooke, the director responsible for the Centre for Excellence, explained: “This provides a way into a ‘big four’ firm that isn’t normally available.
“It could appeal to those graduating from university this summer, but it could be equally attractive to someone working in an entirely different industry who would be interested in a career change.
“Academic qualifications and relevant experience are less important than enthusiasm, logical thinking and the ability to excel in a team environment.”
The other 15 roles are open to people with accountancy and audit qualifications, but as part of Deloitte’s ‘agile working’ commitments there will be opportunities to work part-time or to have more flexibility in the times they start or finish work.
Nicky Cooke added: “There are a lot of qualified auditors in the North East who can find the long hours that can be associated with audit work problematic – such as working parents, for example.
“They want a better work-life balance, so we hope the options of working part-time, or to work full-time but have definite start and finish times, will appeal to them.”
The expansion at the Centre for Excellence is due to the increase in work from Deloitte teams across the UK.
Stephen Hall, practice senior partner for Deloitte in the North East, said: “The North East region is bursting with talent.
“It’s an exciting time for us and the people we will be recruiting over the next few months, and into 2017, have a chance to develop their careers and to help shape the future of our Centre of Excellence in Newcastle.”
