James Briggs’ automotive paint brand Hycote grew by 30% during the 2015/16 year

Record eight-figure turnover for Oldham manufacturer James Briggs Ltd

North West manufacturer James Briggs Ltd achieved a record turnover in the year ending June 31 2016, with much of the growth attributed to the performance of its own branded business.

The Oldham-based aerosol and consumer chemicals firm saw its turnover hit £51m during the period, a year-on-year increase of around £5.5m or 12%.

James Briggs’ own brand automotive paint, Hycote, grew by 30% over the course of the 2015/16 year, while its commercial cleaning range, Nilco, grew by 67%.

The company expanded after acquiring the assets of Premiere Products, the commercial cleaning brand, and also through its deal with B&Q and partnerships with several large European distributors, including Bunzl and Tetrosyl.

Elsewhere, James Briggs made the push into new markets, such as Ireland through automotive parts distributor P.R. Reilly and the Middle East through global distributor Zettex BV Europe.

Tim Pugh, the CEO of James Briggs Ltd, said: “The success of our branded business is indicative of the exceptional market knowledge and product expertise we nurture at James Briggs.

“It’s these elements that have enabled us to secure nationwide contracts with the likes of B&Q, whilst bolstering our offering with strategic acquisitions. These record figures also reflect the ongoing operational improvements we’re making and our increased presence in international markets.”

He added: “The continued growth of James Briggs will certainly have an international focus, and it’s heartening to see the positive traction we’ve begun to experience across a diverse range of new geographies in the last 12 months.

“If we continue to develop the business as anticipated, and the markets remain receptive to our offering, then I’m confident we’ll be looking back on another outstanding 12 months this time next year.”
