Salford’s 17-storey CitySuites scheme tops out
Property investment firm Select Property Group has hit a new milestone in the delivery of its 17-storey CitySuites development in Greater Manchester.
Work on the scheme topped out this week, with Salford City Council’s Cllr Ray Mashiter and Cllr Derek Antrobus visiting the site to mark the occasion.
CitySuites will create 244 serviced apartments across studio, one- and two-bedroom designs when it opens in January next year.
Located on Chapel Street in Salford’s Greengate regeneration area, the scheme will also offer leisure facilities, valeting and a concierge service, with guests able to stay on a short-term basis or settle for up to 12 months.
Ken Knott, Select Property Group’s chief development officer, said at the topping out ceremony: “CitySuites will be unlike anything else in the city. With current accommodation options, the business traveller always faces a compromise.
“After any length of time even the finest hotel rooms can feel cold, claustrophobic and impractical, while traditional serviced apartments are often bland, dated and limited to the periphery of a city. With CitySuites there is no compromise.”
He continued: “Today marks a huge milestone for our CitySuites brand and indeed the Greengate area and as I look out at the view it makes me incredibly excited. With just under six months until we open the doors, the building is already looking fantastic and we’re looking forward to its completion”
Salford City Council’s Elected City Mayor, Paul Dennett, said he believes the scheme will provide an economic boost for the area.
He commented: “CitySuites is an important addition to the region’s skyline which will, not only be an attraction itself, but also provide an offer which supports inward investment from UK and global businesses across the city.
“The scheme contributes to the continuing regeneration of Greengate, the Medieval heart of the city, where new residential, commercial and leisure developments are converging to create an exciting new city centre neighbourhood.”
Mark Nicholson, the business unit director of Carillion, Select’s construction partner on the project, was also at the ceremony.
He said: “We are delighted to have reached this landmark stage of the CitySuites project, which will offer a new concept in accommodation in the Greengate area.”
